Payroll · How-to
Set how someone is paid
Choose a pay scheme for an employee (monthly, hourly, commission, tiered or per class) from a date, and keep every change as history.
Open their Compensation tab
Open the person on People and choose “Compensation”. You see the scheme in force, what this month has accrued so far and where it came from, and the history of changes.
Start a change
Press “Change”. Nothing is edited in place: each change is a new row in the history, from the date you choose. You need a role that can edit Payroll.
Pick the scheme
Choose the “Scheme”:
- “Fixed monthly”: a monthly salary.
- “Hourly”: a rate for each hour worked.
- “Percent of services” or “Percent of products”: commission on their sales at the till.
- “Fixed + percent”: a monthly salary plus commission.
- “Tiered percent”: the rate of the highest tier the period's service sales reach, applied to all of them.
- “Per class”: an amount for each attendee of the group classes they ran.
Enter the amounts
Fill in what the scheme asks for: the amount per month or per hour, the “Services” and “Products” percentages, or the pay per attendee. For “Tiered percent”, press “Add tier” and give each tier the amount it starts from and its rate.
Add rates for single services
For any scheme but “Fixed monthly” and “Hourly”, “Per-service rates” gives one service its own rate instead of the services percentage. Press “Add service rate”, pick the service and type its rate. This needs Bookings switched on.
Set the date and save
Set “Applies from” (today unless you change it), add a “Note” if it helps, and press “Save”. The change appears under “History” with who made it. A run uses the scheme in force on the last day it covers.
Common questions
- Can I record a pay rise that starts next month?
Yes. Set “Applies from” to that date; until then the current scheme stays in force.
- Can I enter a salary when I add someone?
Yes, if your role can edit Payroll: “Add employee” then shows “Annual base salary”, which becomes a “Fixed monthly” row from their start date at a twelfth of the figure. “Edit profile” has no pay field, so every later change is made here.
- What happens to their pay when they leave?
Offboarding ends the scheme in force on their last day: the “Compensation” tab marks it “Ended” with the date and shows it under “Ended on”, and the history gives the row both its dates. Payroll still pays them for the days they were employed that month, and setting them back to “Active” starts the scheme again.
