Products: questions people ask

Short answers about services, prices on old invoices, stock, costs, imports, labels and recipes.

Common questions

Is a “Service” here the same as a service clients book?

No. The services in the diary, with their length and staff, live in Bookings › Services. A service here is a line for invoices; it is never stocked or put on an order.

If I change a price, do old invoices change?

No. Every invoice and order line keeps the price it was written with; the new price applies from then on.

Do Products and Inventory keep separate stock?

Not while Inventory is switched on: the “Stock” number in Products is then the total of your warehouses, the same stock orders reserve, the shop offers and the till takes, and it is adjusted in Inventory › Stock. Only a workspace without Inventory keeps a simple count on the product.

What is the difference between “Cost” and the average cost?

The cost on the product is what you last paid for one: you can type it, and receiving a purchase order updates it. The average cost is what margins use. It starts as the cost you typed, and once stock has been received at a cost, Setvos keeps it from those receipts alone.

What happens to stock when I import products?

A file with a stock column marks those products as tracked. With Inventory switched on, the count goes into your first active warehouse as opening stock, once: a product already on a shelf keeps its warehouse count, so adjust that one in Inventory › Stock. Imported prices are in your workspace’s currency.

How do I print shelf labels?

From the stock list in Inventory › Stock: tick the products and press “Print labels”.

Can a service use up products?

Yes. A booked service’s “Recipe” tab in Bookings › Services says how much of each product one visit uses, and the till takes it off the shelf at checkout.
