Add a product or service
Create a catalogue item with its price, cost, unit, barcode and category, ready for invoices, orders and the shop.
Start a new product
Open Products and press “New product”.
Name it and price it
Enter the “Name”, the “SKU” and “Barcode” if you use them, the “Type” — Product or Service — and the price, in the price field labelled with your currency.
Say what it costs and how it is counted
The cost field is what one unit costs you. Until stock is received at a cost on a purchase order, it counts as the product’s average cost, so the margin shows straight away. “Unit” is what the shelf is counted in — ml, g, pcs. “Units per pack” is how many of those come in one purchase unit: a 1,000 ml bottle counted in ml is 1000. Leave it at 1 for anything that is simply one thing.
Pick a category
Choose a “Category”, or leave “No category”. Create categories first with “Categories” on the list.
Decide about stock
Tick “Track inventory” for anything you count, and type the “Initial stock” if you have some now. With Inventory switched on, that number goes into your first active warehouse as its opening stock, and shows in the stock ledger as “Opening stock”; if you have no warehouse yet, it moves in when you add the first one. Without Inventory, it is the product’s own count.
Decide where it is offered
“Active (available on invoices)” is ticked from the start. Tick “Sell in the public shop” only for items buyers may order online, and add a “Photo URL” for the shop if you have one.
Save it
Press “Create product”. It appears in the list at once and can be picked on invoices; an item of type Product can also be picked on orders and purchase orders.
Common questions
- Do I need products to send an invoice?
No. A “Custom item” line takes any name and price. Products save time when you sell the same thing again and again.
- Why does it say the SKU or barcode already exists?
Each SKU and each barcode can belong to one product only. Find the other product and change or clear its code.
- How do I add a photo for the shop?
With “Sell in the public shop” ticked, save the product, open it again and press “Upload a photo”: a JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF of up to 8 MB. You can still paste a link instead.
- Can I add a product on the phone?
Yes, in Products: a name, SKU, a barcode you can scan in, the type, price and cost, unit, units per pack, a category, a description, “Track inventory” with the initial stock, Active and “Sell in the public shop”. Add a photo from the camera or the library.
