Onboarding: checklists that get a new colleague started
Give each new hire a checklist of tasks due around their start date, and see who is still settling in.
Templates
A template is the list of tasks a new hire's checklist starts with. Each task is due a number of days before or after the start date.
Checklists
Starting onboarding for someone copies a template into their own checklist. Onboarding shows a card per checklist with the person, their start date and how many tasks are done. “In progress” shows the unfinished ones; “All” shows every checklist, a finished one marked “Completed” and a closed one “Closed (left)”.
Starting by itself
With the “Onboarding checklist” automation on, every employee record added from then on, including one created by a hire in Recruitment, gets a checklist from your default template the moment it is created.
Finishing
Ticking the last task completes the checklist, notes it in the person's “Recent activity” and turns a status of Onboarding into Active.
When someone leaves
Setting a person to Offboarded on People closes a checklist still running for them: it leaves “In progress” and stays under “All”, unfinished and marked “Closed (left)”. A closed checklist can no longer be ticked.
Where to start
Create a template first: without one, no checklist can start, by hand or automatically. Then switch on the automation, or start checklists by hand.
Who can do what
“Start checklist” is there only for a role that can create in Onboarding, and “Automations”, with the templates and the automation, only for one that can change Onboarding settings. Ticking tasks needs a role that can edit Onboarding.
